Ingredients
  

For the Protein
  • 1 pound shrimp opt for tender varieties
  • 8 ounces smoked sausage turkey sausage works well for a lighter option
For the Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil can substitute with coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter ghee is a great dairy-free substitute
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream canned coconut milk for dairy-free variant
For the Veggies
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper chopped
  • 3 cloves minced garlic fresh preferred, garlic powder is alternative
For Flavors and Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning adjust to personal spice preferences
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper add based on spice tolerance
  • salt to taste

For the Liquid
  • 1 cup chicken broth can replace with vegetable broth

Method
 

  1. In a large skillet, pour in 2 tablespoons of olive oil and heat over medium-high heat until it shimmers, about 2 minutes.
  2. Add 1 pound of shrimp and 8 ounces of smoked sausage to the skillet, sprinkling 1 teaspoon of Cajun seasoning over them. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until shrimp turns pink and sausage starts browning. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. Lower the heat to medium and add 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Once melted, toss in 1 chopped onion, 1 chopped red bell pepper, and 1 chopped green bell pepper. Sauté for about 3 to 4 minutes.
  4. Stir in 3 cloves of minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Pour in 1 cup of chicken broth, add remaining Cajun seasoning, 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Let simmer for about 5 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  6. Return the cooked shrimp and sausage to the skillet, mixing gently into the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste and heat through for 2 minutes.
