Ingredients

For the Stir Fry
  • 1 lb flank steak, sirloin, or ribeye, thinly sliced Provides protein; chicken, pork, or tofu also work wonderfully.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Adds saltiness and umami; choose low-sodium for a lighter taste.
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce Contributes sweetness and depth; substitute with soy sauce, honey, and peanut butter if needed.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Enhances flavor and richness; can replace with neutral oil, but taste may vary.
  • 1 tablespoon honey Adds sweetness; maple syrup serves as a vegan alternative.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Enhances flavor; fresh garlic is preferable, but powdered works too—just use less.
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated Provides warmth and spice; ground ginger is a suitable quick fix.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for stir frying Essential for cooking; you can substitute with canola or peanut oil.
For the Vegetables
  • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced Adds crunch and color; feel free to use any sweet pepper variety.
  • 1 cup broccoli florets Nutrient-rich and vibrant; cauliflower makes a great substitute.
  • 1 carrot, julienned Brings sweetness and texture; zucchini is a lower-carb option.
  • ½ cup snap peas, ends trimmed Delivers a crisp texture; regular peas can be easily swapped in.
  • green onions for garnish, chopped Offers a fresh bite; chives can be a tasty substitute.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, optional Adds a nutty flavor as a garnish; omit or replace with chopped nuts if desired.
For Serving
  • steamed rice Adds substance; opt for quinoa or cauliflower rice for a healthier, lower-carb meal.

Equipment

  • wok or large skillet

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by thinly slicing your beef against the grain, ensuring each piece is uniform for even cooking. For added flavor, you can marinate the beef in a mixture of soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger for about 15-30 minutes.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and honey. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, whisk until well mixed, then set aside.
  3. Place a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil. Heat for about 1-2 minutes until shimmering. Add marinated beef slices in a single layer, searing for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Once the beef is well-seared, remove it from the pan and set it aside.
  5. In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil and toss in carrots, bell pepper, and broccoli florets. Stir-fry for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Add snap peas into the skillet, continuing to stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until they are bright green.
  7. Return the seared beef to the pan along with the prepared sauce. Gently mix everything together and cook for about 1-2 minutes more.
  8. Remove the pan from heat. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve warm over steamed rice.
