Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by heating a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a drizzle of oil, then toss in the minced garlic, sautéing it for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not brown.
  2. Next, add the lean ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart and cook for 7-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and no longer pink.
  3. Once the beef is browned, stir in the soy sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar. Include chili flakes if you like a kick! Let simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and fold in the chopped Thai basil and sliced scallions. Let this delicious mixture cool down before assembling.
  5. In a shallow dish, warm some water. Dip a rice paper wrapper for 5-8 seconds until pliable. Lay it on a clean, damp surface.
  6. Place a portion of the beef filling onto the center of the rice paper wrapper. Add any optional herbs or veggies.
  7. Tightly fold the bottom edge over the filling, tuck in the sides and roll it upwards like a burrito.
  8. Carefully cut into bite-sized pieces and serve alongside your favorite dipping sauce.
