  • 2 cups fresh strawberries Frozen strawberries are an option if well-thawed and drained.
  • 0.25 cups powdered sugar Consider using a sugar alternative.
For the Glaze
  • 0.5 cups whipping cream Can be swapped with milk or a non-dairy alternative.

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and optional salt. Stir in melted butter and vanilla extract until crumbly.
  3. Press two-thirds of the crumb mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust and bake for 15–20 minutes.
  4. While crust is baking, macerate strawberries with granulated sugar and flour in a separate bowl for about 10 minutes.
  5. Once crust is golden, layer macerated strawberries over it and sprinkle remaining crumb mixture on top.
  6. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 30–35 minutes until the top is set and golden.
  7. Cool completely in the pan at room temperature before cutting into squares.
  8. Prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, whipping cream, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  9. Drizzle the glaze over cooled bars and cut into 12 equal squares for serving.
