Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a stand mixer, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 2 teaspoons of instant yeast, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add 1 ¼ cups of warm milk and 2 tablespoons of melted butter, then mix for 4-5 minutes until smooth.
  2. Cover the mixing bowl and allow the dough to rise for 30-60 minutes until doubled in size.
  3. Preheat your oven to 450°F. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  4. Punch the risen dough down and divide it into twelve portions. Roll into ropes and cut into 1-2 inch bites.
  5. Boil 10 cups of water, stir in ⅔ cup of baking soda, and boil the pretzel bites for 30 seconds in batches.
  6. Whisk together the egg and a tablespoon of water, brush over the pretzel bites, sprinkle with salt, and bake for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
