  3. Reduce to a gentle simmer and add the orange slices in a single layer; allow to simmer for 45 to 60 minutes.
  4. Using tongs, remove the slices from the syrup and place them on a wire rack; let dry for 24 to 48 hours.
  5. Optionally roll in granulated sugar or dip in melted chocolate before serving.
