Step-by-Step Instructions
- Begin by selecting ripe pears for the best flavor and tenderness. Carefully peel the pears, then slice them in half lengthwise, removing the seeds. Set aside a bowl of cold water with lemon juice to keep pears from browning.
- In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of water with 1/2 cup of fresh orange juice and 1/4 cup of agave syrup if desired. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Once the poaching liquid is hot, gently lower the pear halves into the pot with the cut side facing down. Cover the pot and allow to poach for 20-30 minutes.
- Remove the pears with a slotted spoon and place on a serving platter. Let cool in the syrup for a few minutes before serving.
