Step-By-Step Instructions
- Generously season the beef chuck roast with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder, ensuring an even coating. Allow the roast to sit for about 15 minutes at room temperature.
- Slice the sweet onion into thin rings and layer them at the bottom of your slow cooker. Place the seasoned beef roast on top of the onions.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the beef broth, brown gravy mix, and Worcestershire sauce, whisking until smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the beef roast.
- Cover the slow cooker with its lid and set it to cook on low for 8 hours. Avoid lifting the lid during this time.
- After cooking, remove the beef from the slow cooker. To thicken the gravy, whisk together cornstarch and water to create a slurry, and stir it into the gravy. Cook on high for 10-15 minutes.
- Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker and mix it well with the thickened gravy. Serve the savory beef over mashed potatoes.
