Step-by-Step Instructions for French Onions Meatloaf
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x5 inch loaf pan with aluminum foil.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed pot, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 pounds of sliced yellow onions with 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda. Cook for 15 minutes, then reduce stirring and caramelize for another 10-15 minutes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup of plain dried breadcrumbs with 1/2 cup of whole milk until absorbed. Add caramelized onions (reserving some), 2 cloves of minced garlic, 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce, and 1 1/2 teaspoons of kosher salt. Season with 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper.
