  • 1 bottle Dry Red Wine A fruity variety like Merlot or Pinot Noir
  • 1 cup Bourbon Can be swapped for brandy or omitted
  • 4 cups Apple Cider Substitute with a similar juice if unavailable
For the Fruit
  • 1 medium Apple Thinly sliced, sweet-tart varieties like Honeycrisp or Fuji
  • 1 medium Orange Thinly sliced, Navel or Valencia oranges
For the Spices
  • 2 sticks Cinnamon Sticks Ground cinnamon can be used but start with less
  • 1 inch Fresh Ginger Thinly sliced, fresh is ideal for greater complexity
For Garnish
  • 3 sprigs Fresh Rosemary For an extra aromatic appeal

Method
 

Combine All Ingredients
  1. In a large jar or carafe, pour in dry red wine and bourbon. Add apple cider, thinly sliced apples and oranges, cinnamon sticks, and fresh ginger slices. Stir gently with a wooden spoon.
Chill the Mixture
  1. Cover with a lid or plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight or up to 3 days.
Prepare for Serving
  1. For a chilled version, serve over ice. For a warm version, gently heat in a saucepan without boiling for about 10 minutes.
Garnish and Present
  1. Pour sangria over prepared ice in glasses or ladle warm version into mugs. Garnish with additional apple and orange slices, and a sprig of fresh rosemary.
