  • 1 cup Balsamic Vinegar can substitute with red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar

  • 4 teaspoons Fresh Thyme or dried thyme if fresh is unavailable
  • 1 teaspoon Salt adjust according to your taste
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper freshly ground is best
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced, optional for flavor depth
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese optional, can be substituted with Gruyère or omitted
For Garnish
  • 4 sprigs Fresh Thyme for garnishing

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with olive oil.
  2. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes to about ⅛ inch.
  3. In a large bowl, combine balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper to create the marinade.
  4. Toss the potato slices in the marinade until well-coated.
  5. Layer the potato slices in the prepared cake pan in an overlapping circular pattern.
  6. If using, sprinkle mozzarella cheese between the layers of potato.
  7. Cover the cake pan with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  9. Let the torte cool in the pan for about 15 minutes.
  10. Run a knife around the edge and invert onto a serving plate.
