Preparation Steps
- Start by grating your sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheese, setting them aside for later.
- In a large pot, combine the uncooked macaroni and about 4 cups of water.
- Bring the water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
- Let the pasta cook for about 8-10 minutes, or until al dente.
- Carefully drain the pasta, reserving about 1 cup of the pasta water.
- Lower the heat to medium-low and return the drained pasta to the pot.
- Pour in the heavy whipping cream, then add your prepared cheeses.
- Stir gently to combine and watch the cheese melt into a creamy sauce.
- Sprinkle in the salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and optional mustard and sugar.
- Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated and the sauce has thickened.
- Remove from heat and serve hot, optionally garnished.
